The last Town Clerk of the City Council has been presented with a memento of his time in office by the Deputy Chief Minister.
88-year-old Reggie Norton served as Town Clerk from 1962 until 1969.
Joseph Garcia paid tribute to Mr Norton’s work, saying it was very fitting that the presentation coincided with the exhibition marking 100 years of the establishment of the City Council.
Mr Norton worked closely with the then Mayor Sir Joshua Hassan, and the presentation was of a framed picture of the two of them in the Council Chamber.
After the City Council's merger, Mr Norton agreed to establish a Development and Planning Department. He subsequently left Gibraltar to work for Oxfam. He is presently in Gibraltar with Mrs Norton visiting his family who joined him at the presentation.
