Leading experts on human evolution from around the world will gather in Gibraltar this September for the Calpe Conference 2026.

Organised by the Gibraltar National Museum, the event will bring together representatives from 50 academic institutions across 14 countries to discuss the latest research and understanding of Neanderthals and human evolution.

This year’s conference coincides with the 10th anniversary of Gorham’s Cave Complex being inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, as well as the centenary of the discovery of the Gibraltar 2 Neanderthal skull in Devil’s Tower Cave.

The conference will take place at the University of Gibraltar between the 2nd and 5th of September. Registration is now open & free for local residents.
