Local man arrested following police pursuit and 650 litres of fuel found in vehicle

A 47 year old man has been arrested following a police pursuit last night.

Just after 10pm, Gibraltar Defence Police officers were patrolling the area of Europa Advance Road and noticed a locally registered vehicle driving erratically at speed.

Despite being signalled to stop, the van continued to drive at speed into Elliott's Close before colliding with a stationary vehicle.

The driver ran off but was caught by officers who gave chase on foot. A search of the vehicle found 26 containers, with 25 litres of fuel in each.

The man was then arrested on suspicion of Dangerous Driving, Resisting Police and the Transportation of Dangerous Goods.

He was also fined for breaching Civil Contingencies regulations, as he had broken curfew and was not wearing a mask.

Investigations are ongoing.
