Local man sentenced to over two years in prison for controlling and coercive behaviour

A 36-year-old man has been sentenced to two years and three months in prison for controlling and coercive behaviour.
Liam Golt was found guilty in the Magistrates’ Court in February of controlling or coercive behaviour, actual bodily harm, and two counts of common assault.
The matter was then sent to the Supreme Court for sentencing.
Puisne Judge Liam Yeats described the case as serious, saying it was “so serious only a custodial sentence will do”.
He sentenced Golt to 27 months for controlling and coercive behaviour, and 12 months for actual bodily harm.
The sentences will be served concurrently, meaning the total sentence is two years and three months.
