Local runner Jerai Torres has set a new National record for both the 100 and 200 metres. The student, who has been following a strict training programme in the UK, recorded a time of 10.96 for the 100m at the Victoria Stadium last week. But his biggest achievement, he says, is in the 200 metres, clocking 22.19 seconds in Malaga this weekend, a record previously held by Daryl Vassalo since 2005.
The sprinter, who is representing Gibraltar at the Island Games in a number of races, says he will be taking it one event at a time. The season so far has surpassed his expectations he adds, and winning a medal would be a huge bonus.
