Man arrested Friday for being in Gibraltar without a valid permit appears before Justice of the Peace without a shirt on

At the Magistrates Court, a man arrested on Friday for being in Gibraltar without a valid permit, appeared before the Justice of the Peace without a shirt on.

The RGP custody officer accompanying the migrant told the court ‘they had run out of shirts’.

However, in answers to GBC questions, a spokesperson for the Royal Gibraltar Police said the defendant was provided with appropriate clothing but that he chose to enter court without his top.

They added that the RGP are reviewing their procedures to ensure this doesn't happen again.

In a separate matter, 8 migrants arrested yesterday after arriving in Gibraltar on a fishing boat pleaded guilty to being in Gibraltar without a valid permit.

All nine men received a suspended sentence of 6 months and issued with a 28 day Detention and Removal order.
