At the Magistrates' Court this week, a man was sentenced to 6 months in prison after he pleaded guilty to burglary. Angelo Podesta also pleaded guilty to assaulting police and obstructing.
The incident occurred on the 5th of June when Podesta broke into a local pub and stole £150. He also damaged furniture and a fruit machine.
Defence lawyer, Leigh Debono told the court how his client was remorseful and accepted full responsibility for his actions. Mr Debono said the 42 year old was bad at making rational decisions, adding that his life was marked by abstention and relapse.
The Justice of the Peace took into account Podesta’s early guilty plea and accepted all the mitigating factors. However, his previous convictions and assault on the police was frowned upon.
They sentenced Podesta to a 6 month custodial sentence, with no separate penalty for the other two offences.
