Sitting in Dockyard no.2, the former educational cruise liner had to have a flight deck and helicopter platform installed, fittings for replenishment at sea as well as wards and operating theatres - in just 65 hours.

She would spend a total of 113 days out at sea, admitting 730 casualties of war, and carrying out 503 surgical operations.
