Marriage Act officially amended so Deputy registrars will no longer be able to opt out of performing same-sex marriages

The Marriage Act has now officially been amended so Deputy registrars will no longer be able to opt out of performing same-sex marriages.

Parliament voted in favour of the move last week after Equality Minister, Samantha Sacramento, presented a bill to remove the controversial Section 6B.

The change of law has now been assented to by the Governor and gazetted.
