McGrail Inquiry | 12th December 2025, 19:26 |
Former Police Commissioner, Ian McGrail, says it is "well past time" for the inquiry report to be published.
A statement issued by his lawyer on behalf of Mr McGrail says "after five and a half years, the people of Gibraltar deserve to hear the truth".
The statement issued by Charles Gomez says Ian McGrail and his team wish the Chief Minister a speedy recovery.
However, it says Fabian Picardo "has had extensive opportunities to engage with the Inquiry process and respond to allegations against him".
It says Mr Picardo provided three witness statements and gave two days' oral evidence, while his lawyers made hundreds of pages of submissions. The statement adds Mr Picardo may also have received and responded to a letter as part of the Maxwellisation process.
And, it says, "The Government will no doubt have already prepared a press release ahead of the planned publication which was postponed at the last minute".
Mr McGrail goes on to say that the report was delivered to the Government five weeks ago, and that it has since been provided to many of the witnesses, the RGP, the Governor, the Gibraltar Chronicle and GBC.
He says "it is increasingly absurd that it is being held back from the Gibraltar public, who are its most important audience".
The statement by the former Police Commissioner says, "The report will speak for itself and does not need to be mediated by the Chief Minister, or anyone" and therefore "should be published without delay".
