The Ministry for Heritage has expanded its local history educational resources to cover topics frequently taught in primary schools. Each lesson is accompanied by worksheets.
In addition, educational visits and curated video materials are now included as part of the learning package.
Currently, the following topics are available online:
• The Battle of Trafalgar
• Victorian Gibraltar
• The Great Siege of Gibraltar
• Gibraltar During World War II
Additional topics, including Moorish Gibraltar and the Pirate Raid on Gibraltar, will be uploaded in the coming months.
Work in promoting knowledge of Heritage in our schools has included a recent INSET session by the Ministry’s Keith Sheriff, and visits of the Northern Defences led by Carl Viagas.
Heritage Minister, John Cortes, says: “We can never do enough to promote knowledge of our Heritage, in particular among our children, so that they can develop a sound knowledge of, and interest in, our past. This online material is a fantastic resource for teachers and learners"
