Ministry of the Environment tackles strong smells in the South District

Residents of the South District have been noticing strong smells in the area over the weekend.

There have been a number of complaints to the Ministry of the Environment.

In answer to GBC questions the Government has confirmed that action has been taken.  

It says the odour was traced to a bulk carrier, in ballast, which had been taking bunkers since the previous evening and had opened one of its cargo hatches.

The vessel was instructed to close its hatches, with this reportedly, getting rid of the smell.  

The ship has since completed bunkering operations and left British Gibraltar Territorial Waters.
