The Ministry of Defence says it's urgently investigating the cause of an unplanned alarm that sounded from the Naval Base late Monday night.
In response to GBC questions, a spokesperson said this was an internal alarm that sounded outside of routine testing, adding it promptly informed local authorities and other stakeholders that this was a false alarm and that no action needed to be taken. It apologises for any distress caused.
The MoD also adds that shelter alarms will be tested on the 11th August, adding that announcements will be made via a loudspeaker in the afternoon. It says members of the public should not be concerned, and that no action is required.
