MOD says it investigated theft of £50,000 worth of fuel from storage facility on the Rock in 2016

The Ministry of Defence says it investigated the theft of 50 thousand pounds' worth of fuel from a storage facility on the Rock in 2016.

However, it wasn't able to establish enough evidence for a conviction or disciplinary action.

This is according to a report in the Gibraltar Chronicle, which submitted a Freedom of Information request after the fuel theft was raised in the UK's House of Commons.

The parliamentary answer from Under-Secretary of Defence, Andrew Murrison, showed it was the single highest-value theft in any of the MoD's worldwide sites that year.

It's not clear what kind of fuel was stolen, or where it was stolen from.

The MoD told the Chronicle it works hard to detect and deter theft, and that British Forces Gibraltar has processes to track stored fuels.
