Nearly 3,500 submissions on equal marriage command paper

Nearly 3,500 submissions were made in response to the Command Paper on Equal Marriage, the Government has revealed. Some of these were from multi-signatory groups, some via petitions, and some from individuals.

An inter-ministerial committee has been established to listen to the views of the various groups and many of the individuals who responded. It will report its findings to Cabinet by June.

The Chief Minister said this was an issue that has led to “controversy in some sections” of the community, and which deserves the Government’s careful consideration so that it may fully understand the concerns of people on both sides of the issue.
