New measures regarding mask wearing have come into effect this weekend.
These affect the wearing of masks in public areas, businesses, hair and beauty salons, estate agents, medical and health services, motor vehicle dealers, gymnasiums, restaurants, cafeterias, bars and takeaways.
Masks are required to be worn in gyms but not by those who are exercising. Similarly, those having a treatment above the neck in a hair and beauty salon will not be expected to cover the nose and mouth.
You will also need to wear a face mask at bars and restaurants unless you're sitting down at a table.
It is now necessary to wear a mask outside schools when collecting a child between 11.45am and 4.00pm. Masks are now also required when attending a funeral.
The Government has published maps showing the areas where these new rules apply, outside each school and the whole North Front Cemetery.
The regulations say failure to comply could result in an on the spot fine of £100.
A copy of the guidance note is linked here with further details.
Commenting on the new measures, the Government says it continues to work to slow the growth of numbers of cases of COVID-19 in the community, taking measures that will hopefully avoid having to impose any general lockdown measures. These latest measures “promote the use of masks so as to lower the risk that the virus can spread and infect vulnerable individuals in Gibraltar”.
