Parts of New Mole House that were closed following concerns over potential asbestos exposure have now been declared safe.
The Minister for Justice told Parliament that technical assessments carried out after recent heavy rains have concluded, with affected areas deemed safe for reoccupation.
Nigel Feetham said no asbestos fibres were released and there is no health risk, provided routine monitoring continues.
In answers to questions from the GSD's Joelle Ladislaus, the Minister confirmed that asbestos had previously been identified in the building during a 2012 survey, but was assessed at the time as low risk and placed under a management and inspection programme.
He also revealed that the Government is examining the possible relocation of the police headquarters to an alternative site, with concept designs developed and discussions already under way.
The Government says it remains committed to supporting the Royal Gibraltar Police in meeting its operational needs.
