It was revealed in Parliament that there are currently no plans to re-open the South and North District Post Offices. This followed questions from Opposition member Roy Clinton, who said he understood the Pensioners Association had written to the Government expressing concern that its members were experiencing problems in collecting their pensions.
Minister Joe Bossano explained there had been a proposal to house Savings Bank outlets in the premises but that when the money generated was considered, it was found not to be financially viable. He said there were only a handful of pensioners who had problems and offered to deal with these individual cases to find solutions.
