No Port or Government services provided to Overseas Santorini, says Government

Number Six says no services were provided by either the Government or the Port to a tanker reportedly carrying fuel for Israeli fighter jets.

This was confirmed in response to GBC questions on Wednesday morning, after the Overseas Santorini had left British Gibraltar Territorial Waters; throughout Tuesday, as the neared and then stopped in BGTW, the Gibraltar Government remained silent following repeated requests from GBC for comment.

It is not clear whether the tanker was refused bunkering, with the Government saying the reason why the ship did not refuel is a matter for the vessel and the commercial bunker operators.

In response to GBC questions, the Government says the US-flagged tanker is not subject to sanctions from the United Kingdom, the European Union or the United Nations.

Number Six says it was in close contact with the UK authorities over the matter, adding it has “a clear view of wider UK foreign policy interests when it comes to dealing with our closest allies”.

The Government adds the Royal Gibraltar Police took an operational decision to deploy a patrol boat.
