Police Sergeant Elliott Brooke has been found not guilty on all counts in his sexual offences trial.

The jury returned unanimous verdicts, acquitting the 34 year old of attempted rape and two counts of sexual assault against a female police officer.

Throughout the trial, defence lawyer Shane Danino's central arguement was that the interactions between his client and the complainant were consensual.

The prosecution had alleged he took advantage of his position as sergeant and his influence over the complainant, who was a probationary officer at the time.

The jury has now cleared him of all three charges.

Speaking to GBC outside court, Elliott Brooke said:

“I am very happy the incident has concluded and on this occasion justice has prevailed. I hope in the unfortunate circumstances somebody finds themselves in the situation where false allegations have been made that they find the strength and courage to stand up, say the truth and ultimately believe that eventually the truth will come out.”
