Search ongoing for man who came onshore from jet-ski following a chase at sea; two Spanish nationals from Ceuta in RGP custody

A police search is ongoing for a man who came onshore from a jet-ski following a chase at sea Monday; two Spanish nationals from Ceuta who were also involved in the chase were arrested and are in RGP custody.

A spokesperson for the Royal Gibraltar Police told GBC three people came ashore from two jet-skis near the Mediterranean Rowing Club. One of them is still at large.

In a statement, the RGP said the Guardia Civil had been chasing the two jet-skis, with their three occupants suspected of drug-trafficking from the Getares area; the Guardia Civil notified the RGP that they were heading for British Gibraltar Territorial Waters.

The RGP picked up the chase in the harbour area, with the help of Customs, the Gibraltar Squadron and the Gibraltar Defence Police. The jet-skis have been seized, and the two men - aged 40 and 25 - are helping police with inquiries.

The police add that earlier, bales of cannabis resin had been sighted floating off Europa Point; a total of three bales are in police possession.
