The Opposition has questioned whether the Minister for Economic Development did in fact make a mistake providing the figure of £90M, saying the Ministers present had ample opportunity to correct the record at the time.
In a statement, the GSD says that Sir Joe Bossano was repeatedly pressed on the £90M figure, but at no point did he say it was a mistake.
It points to the presence of the Chief Minister and the Minister for Health and Care, who were both in Parliament during parts of the questioning, but neither intervened to correct either the figure or the parliamentary record.
The Opposition states that if the Government has sought to backtrack following public backlash, it should support the explanation by making the full financial information public.
It adds that Number Six 'must explain how such a significant error arose and ensure that the parliamentary record is formally corrected.'
