At the Orkney Island Games, Team Gibraltar has secured two golds and a bronze in the women's cycling.
Olivia Lett and Nicola Valarino claimed gold and bronze respectively in the women’s individual time trial.
Their combined efforts, taken with Nicola Macedo's fourth place, meant another gold for Gibraltar in the team event.
Olivia told GBC she is in shock as she only started training last year after giving birth to her daughter Grace 14 months ago. Speaking to Robin Sheppard-Capurro, she said the win felt extra special as training has become much harder with a young child in the family. Especially as her husband Mark is also an Island Games cyclist. She joked that she doesn't really do second place.
Nicola said she is really pleased with the result, given the slightly slower bike she used and also that she too has found it hard to juggle her parenting commitments with her training. Her husband Bernard - himself an Island Games cyclist in the past - also spends a lot of time on the saddle. She completed the Orkney course with a normal road bike as opposed to a more aerodynamic TT bike.
Nicky said the quads were hurting after competing in the triathlon on Sunday, ahead of her cycling event on Monday. She told GBC it was quite windy but she gave it her all.
