Over half of ERS staff had Covid, Health Minister confirms to Parliament

At the height of the pandemic, over half the staff at Elderly Residential Services had tested positive for Covid-19.

Speaking in Parliament today, the Minister for Health revealed that 148 ERS staff contracted the virus out of a total of 260.

Overall, 131 residents had the virus by mid-January, with the majority of these at Mount Alvernia.

In answer to Opposition questions, Samantha Sacramento also confirmed that 382 operations have been cancelled since January 2020 across GHA services, although she said this figure also includes cancellations by patients. Nevertheless, she stressed that surgeries have now resumed, with patients being contacted and assessed in order of priority.
