Police chase jet ski off Catalan Bay; man arrested for being in Gibraltar without documentation

A man has been arrested on suspicion of being in Gibraltar without valid documentation, after jumping into the sea from a jet ski during a police chase off Catalan Bay.

A spokesperson for the Royal Gibraltar Police told GBC that at around 5.15pm on Saturday, a Marine Section vessel challenged the Spanish-registered jet ski, which was close to the shore.

They said the driver of the jet ski failed to stop, with a male passenger jumping overboard. The RGP chased the jet ski until it crossed into Spanish waters, after which they informed the Guardia Civil.

The RGP spokesperson added the 24 year old man who had jumped overboard, believed to be an Algerian national, was arrested at Catalan Bay. He was then taken to St Bernard’s Hospital to be checked over as a precaution.
