Proposal for new cable car system submitted for planning approval

A proposal for a new cable car system has been submitted to the Development and Planning Commission. The application also seeks permission for a development at the Upper Rock Cable Car Station, the lower station at Grand Parade and for the Upper Rock Intermediate Towers.

The Cable Car is an iconic feature on the Rock. Having recently celebrated its 50th anniversary, MH Bland wants to look ahead towards the next 50 years and invest in improving the product. The new cable car cabins will triple the number of passengers that can be carried, with the greater capacity aiming to reduce the queues formed at peak times. The plans also include expansion for the Signal Hill Upper Rock Station and the Grand Parade lower station to cater for the increased number of visitors.

Members of the public may inspect the application, plans and environmental impact statements, together with all relevant documents. Representations need to be made within the next three weeks.
