Rededication of Mario Finlayson National Art Gallery

A re-dedication ceremony has been held at the Gustavo Bacarisas National Art Gallery, in celebration of Gibraltar’s art heritage, six years after the gallery opened.

On the anniversary of the gallery’s opening in 2015, Minister for Culture, John Cortes was joined by Cultural Services staff and the newly appointed Mayor in leading an homage to Mario Finlayson, who himself had campaigned for a national gallery for many years.

His works now adorn the walls of a gallery named in his honour, alongside those of other notable, local artists such as Gustavo Bacarisas. Recently acquired Bacarisas works are among the 100 on display at the gallery; a collection which contains a variety of pieces, including a number which have previously been in storage for some time.

GBC heard from Mario’s daughter, Paulette, who spoke of the pride she felt for her father and his art.
