RGP advising bicycle users to take extra care when securing bikes - confirms 16 thefts in 6 months

The Royal Gibraltar Police are advising bicycle users to take extra care when securing their bikes after confirming 16 thefts in 6 months. The RGP believe there might be many more thefts that go unreported.

The police are currently pursuing various lines of enquiry and checking CCTV footage, however they believe these thefts are opportunistic and that thieves will steal a bike no matter the make or model.

An RGP spokesman said bike owners with home insurance should check whether the policy covers bike theft and the amount insured is sufficient given the high value of some bikes and e-bikes.

The RGP's advice includes parking securely, removing detachable parts and applying security marks or electronic tagging systems. Stolen bikes should be reported as soon as possible.
