Rogue policeman files complaint in La Linea courts

The Police Inspector now known as the 'Rogue officer' who has twice ordered the stamping of Gibraltar passports at the frontier has reported the fact that the Schengen Entry code is not being adhered to at the Gibraltar/Spanish frontier.

According to a report in Europa Sur, he's understood to have filed the complaint in the La Linea Courts, claiming his officers are being made to knowingly go against the law and are therefore not carrying out their duties.

It's understood the Spanish Police Inspector's claim is that there is nothing in writing supporting the exception at the Frontier.

These transitional provisions are agreed between the governments of Spain, the United Kingdom, the European Union and Gibraltar.

Last week the Gibraltar Government of Gibraltar said it would reciprocate immediately if the position on the Spanish side of the frontier does not adhere to the agreement entered into by the respective governments.

It added decisions of the type taken by the officer in question cause difficulties for ordinary people who need or wish to move from one side of the frontier to the other, when the sole reason for being a public servant or in public life should be to make the lives of people easier so long as they are in keeping with all applicable rules and relevant agreements entered into between nations.

The Schengen code is not carried out zealously in most entry and exit points across Europe.
