The weekend’s Covid-19 statistics have revealed the biggest overnight leap in confirmed cases since the beginning of April
Saturday’s Government update showed there were 169 people who had tested positive, an increase of 8 since Friday. This is the biggest 24-hour increase since between the 30th March and the 1st April, when 12 cases were recorded.
These figures come as Gibraltar prepares to enter into Phase 3 of the Government’s Unlock the Rock plan on Monday.
Chief Minister Fabian Picardo is expected to address the sudden spike in numbers at his press conference at Number 6 in the morning.
Nevertheless, the number of people in self-isolation has not matched the increase in cases. Despite a rise of 9 active cases among Gibraltar residents, the corresponding self-isolation figure has only increased by four, despite there being only one extra confirmed recovery. In answer to GBC questions, the Government has confirmed that there are currently no Covid-19 admissions at the hospital.
Sunday’s figures show only one additional confirmed case, bringing the total to 170.There are currently 21 active cases (14 locally resident and 7 cross-frontier workers).
