'Save Europa Point' petition receives over 5,000 signatures

The organisers of the petition against the location of the stadium at Europa Point say the petition has been signed, either online or on paper, by more than five thousand people.

The petition will be presented to the Development and Planning Commission on Tuesday, when it considers the stadium application.

The group has now settled on a name, calling  itself the Save Europa Point Group. It claims that a majority of citizens are unhappy with the project and the petition has given them the platform they needed to express themselves. This, it adds, is borne out by the number of prominent members of the community who've supported their stance and strengthened their arguments with professional opinions and inventive ideas.

The group says the new home of Gibraltar football will stand for perhaps a century and the consequences of a mistake would be grave and long term. It calls on like-minded citizens to join them outside the John Mackintosh Hall as from 8.30am next Tuesday to try and save Europa Point.
