A senior civil servant has been arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office and fraud by abuse of position.
According to a statement by the Royal Gibraltar Police, this is further to the arrest of three local men on Friday in connection with an allegation of conspiracy to defraud a local company, as well as several computer misuse offences.
The RGP say the office of the Chief Secretary asked that the matter be fully investigated on the basis of information presented by the police.
The civil servant has been granted police bail.
The RGP say the investigation continues with the assistance of officers from the Cyber Crime Unit of the UK's National Crime Agency.
In response to GBC questions as to whether the civil servant has been suspended, the Government said only that it can confirm that an official is currently under investigation by the RGP. It adds it is unable to give any further details at this stage.
