Seven housing repossessions underway since dedicated hotline announced

Published by GBC News

Two Government properties are in the final stages of repossession, with proceedings for a total of seven repossessions underway since the dedicated hotline was announced on the 15th December.

The Housing Minister says she is delighted with the 'overwhelming' public response to calling in with anonymous reports of suspected empty flats.

After a thorough investigation, Pat Orfila gave the go ahead to recover the identified empty flats.

The Government says this underscores its unequivocal commitment to housing, ensuring that all of the Government's stock is allocated to individuals and families on the waiting lists.

Members of the public are encouraged to continue reporting any suspected empty flats through the designated hotline. Reports can be made 24/7 by calling 200 40040 and via email to housing@gibraltar.gov.gi

The Housing Minister says she is deeply committed to tackling the issue, adding the response from the public has been instrumental to the Ministry's efforts. She says they are extremely grateful for their vigilance and support.
