Sir Joe Bossano addresses UN decolonisation seminar in Nicaragua

Sir Joe Bossano says Spain is showing greater recognition of Gibraltarians and Gibraltar’s institutions, pointing to what he described as a change in language and approach in recent years.

He was addressing a UN decolonisation seminar in Nicaragua, and said he had taken part in all four decades of the Community of 24 seminars.

Sir Joe said that Spain had previously rejected any recognition of Gibraltarians as a distinct people , but that that position has now shifted, citing recent treaty discussions, tax arrangements and recent meetings between Gibraltar and Spanish ministers.

He said Gibraltarians' right to self determination remains unresolved despite decades of UN discussions.
