Some of the Royal Gibraltar regiment’s artillery pieces will be exhibited on the site of the Grand Battery. Works have continued on the site as part of Government’s policy of restoring and investing in our important historic sites and monuments.
The first phase of restoration works to the site of the Grand Battery, has already seen the removal of a World War II blast wall. which has exposed a series of eighteen century fire steps.
Further works to the site will see the addition of balustrades, and will also focus on repair and reconstruction, including the removal or pruning of any trees and plant life that are damaging the monument.
The Grand Battery is one of Gibraltar’s key military monuments. It forms part of the Northern Defences which have also been undergoing improvements and restoration works for a number of years now. The restoration project forms part of Government’s commitment to restore the network of defensive structures that protected Gibraltar against land attacks.
