As negotiations for a deal between the UK and the EU over Gibraltar continue, Spain has extended its bridging measures for Gibraltarians until the 31st December. They were due to expire on the 31st October.
If follows a royal decree after a meeting of the Council of Ministers.
The extension will allow the continuation of recognition of driving licences, which means locals will continue to be able to drive in Spain without the need for an International Driving Permit.
Reciprocal healthcare has also been extended, meaning that Gibraltarians will continue to be able to receive healthcare in Spain and vice versa.
The recognition of professional qualifications and titles has also been extended. This means students from Gibraltar can continue to take advantage of the access procedures to Spanish universities for the academic years 2022-2023 and 2023-2024, in the same terms provided for students from educational systems of EU member states.
