A Spanish national has been sentenced to eight months in prison, after being found guilty of assisting with illegal immigration. Ivan Herrera Tirado was transporting five men for financial gain.
The case dates back to March, when officers of the Royal Gibraltar Police boarded a vessel that looked heavy at the bow and they thought was struggling to the west of Rosia Bay.
On boarding and after an exchange with the boat’s small crew, officers found five men in various conditions cramped into the small cabin.
Highlighting that Herrera Tirado was transporting the men for financial gain, and that the five men were not related in any way to each other, Herrera Tirado was sentenced to one year in prison, with the sentence being brought down to eight months.
