Spanish cross-frontier workers will continue to have access to healthcare in Spain. This has been confirmed by the Cadiz provincial government.
It says European citizens living in Spain and working in Gibraltar who feared being left without free health coverage on the Spanish side of the border, will continue to enjoy the benefits of free healthcare.
This follows the announcement that the healthcare bridging measures extended by Spain to Gibraltar following the Rock's departure from the EU in December 2020 will be discontinued as from tomorrow.
Thursday is the last day Gibraltarians will have access to free healthcare in Spain.
The Spanish daily, Europasur, has attributed the Spanish Government's decision to end this provision due to the 'lack of progress' in treaty negotiations.
Although it does not quote a source, the paper says there is no date for the round of talks which was meant to be held in June, and an agenda has not even been drawn up.
However the Chief Minister said on Tuesday during the course of his Budget Address, there were technical discussions between Gibraltar, the United Kingdom and Spain in Gibraltar only this week, linked to the ongoing treaty negotiations.
He said this contact is ongoing and at all levels.
