A technical delegation from the European Commission is set to visit the the frontier, the Port and the Gibraltar Airport this week. It will also visit the Spanish side.
The delegation wants to obtain first-hand knowledge of the area to have a better understanding of its unique nature to all concerned.
In a statement, the Government says it's an opportunity for the UK and Gibraltar to continue their internal discussions before the next negotiating round of treaty talks as well as for subsequent engagement with Spain.
The Government says it's fully committed to an agreement based on the New Year's Eve agreement.
The Spanish press reports the visit is scheduled over Tuesday and Wednesday.
A Foreign Office Spokesman has described the UK-EU talks on Gibraltar as constructive saying progress is being made. He adds that in addition to the negotiation rounds which have taken place in London and Brussels, officials are visiting Gibraltar. The UK Government, with the Government of Gibraltar, he says, is also maintaining a regular and constructive dialogue with the Government of Spain. The Foreign Office states it will not agree to anything which compromises UK sovereignty.
