The Speaker has expressed the hope that Parliament will always be held in high esteem and has called on Gibraltar’s Parliamentarians to carry out their duties with dignity. At the Ceremonial Opening of Parliament, the Governor, Alison Macmillan, praised elections in Gibraltar as an exercise in democracy. She reiterated Britain’s commitment to the Rock that it will not enter into sovereignty negotiations with which Gibraltar is not content.
In his reply, the Chief Minister highlighted the work ahead for the Parliament, saying he hoped this would be done in a collegiate style. Opposition Leader, Daniel Feetham said that not since the Joint Sovereignty negotiations had there been such a need for the House to work together.
