The new sporting facility for Special Olympics at Europa Point aims to create employment opportunities for members of the charity. The multi-purpose gym will provide ‘inclusive facilities’ with the aim of hosting cultural events in future.
The hall being built close to the Shrine is described as a purpose built facility, which will be used for Special Olympic athletes and the wider community. It will cater for a variety of sports and also features a gym, clubhouse and cafeteria, with these facilities to be run by the Association. With a seating capacity of around 400, the idea is to also use the development to host cultural events.
In answer to GBC Questions, Special Olympics, National Director, describes the sports complex as a very exciting concept. Annie Risso, however says premises have been a long time coming and something they welcome, but the facility itself was an amazing bonus. They look forward to its completion in December and the opportunities the development will provide.
