Local fresh food and drink chain, Supernatural, has won the bid to provide meals at Gibraltar’s schools.
GBC understands a selection of hot and cold meals will initially be delivered to roughly 40% of schoolchildren in Gibraltar, with that figure rising by Christmas.
However, the Government has previously indicated that in the long term, the preference is for meals to be prepared on site.
The company, which promotes healthy eating for school children through its “Feed My Future” campaign, already sells lunches on request for £4 per day.
Supernatural is currently located at the World Trade Centre and Atlantic Suites.
It is not yet confirmed to what extent these meals will be subsidised.
In 2016 in Parliament, the Chief Minister indicated that parents who can afford it will be asked to pay for them, but added no child will be left without a meal because their parents cannot afford to pay.
GBC understands parents were recently asked for feedback on this issue via letter.
