Together Gibraltar claims language used by the New People is bigoted & insulting

Together Gibraltar says it's saddened and angered by the language used by the New People referring to the Opposition that insults and denigrates people with mental disabilities in our community.

It says using the word ‘retarded’ is an insult to those with intellectual disabilities whose families have fought for years to break those stigmas.

The Party states this is a term now considered hate speech, bigoted, and highly insulting. It adds there is no other definition and the New People cannot proclaim innocence.

Together Gibraltar says this is a newspaper paid for by the tax payer and run by GSLP executive members, with the Chief Minister admitting he writes for it under a pseudonym. The Party says that in the UK this latest article would have gone before the Press Complaints Commission, with the newspaper receiving a hefty fine.

It adds there's no excuse for this language and the Chief Minister, the Government and the GSLP should hang their heads in utter shame.
