Toy recall issued in Gibraltar over Asbestos concerns

A number of children’s toys sold under brands such as Addo, Stretcherz and Orb are being recalled over concerns they may contain trace amounts of asbestos.

A warning has been issued to local retailers.

In answer to GBC questions, the Environmental Agency said a general product recall notification is being circulated to all businesses licensed to sell toys in Gibraltar.

It adds that individual recall notices - including links to full product details - will be shared directly with retailers. 

The affected items include a wide range of craft kits, sensory toys and stretchy figures. 

Asbestos is a banned substance and can pose serious health risks if inhaled. 

Anyone who believes they may have purchased one of the recalled products is advised to stop using it immediately and follow safety guidance.

What should you do if you have one of these toys?

•               Stop using it immediately

•               Do not open or handle sand or contents unnecessarily

•               Place the item in a sealed bag (double-bag if possible)

•               Keep it away from children

•               Return it to the retailer for a refund, where possible

•               Consider using  gloves/mask when handling
