Businesses are complaining that the new Asycuda system introduced by Customs for pre arrival clearance is actually taking much more time to process.
The system was supposed to allow traders to lodge declarations before goods arrive in Gibraltar, significantly reducing release times for consignments, improving trade flow and efficiency.
However, traders are reporting to GBC that the system is actually taking much longer to process consignments, and creating a bottleneck at the commercial gate.
Lorry drivers have also told GBC this is the case.
Customs has acknowledged the recent delays, saying it is monitoring the situation and putting in place adjustments to the project.
In response to GBC questions, it said, "While technical issues were resolved within the initial days, the project remains ongoing, and new challenges have emerged as further changes are implemented. Throughout this process, we have closely monitored operations and identified key factors contributing to the delays.
We are actively exploring and implementing necessary adjustments to ensure the successful completion of the project, which is expected to deliver long-term benefits for all stakeholders.
HM Customs sincerely regrets any inconvenience caused and extends its gratitude to importers, traders, and the general public for their continued patience and understanding."
