Two CSSC Cape Town crew members still said to be in critical condition following explosion

Two crew members from the CSSC Cape Town are still said to be in critical condition after they were taken to Seville hospital burns unit following an explosion aboard the vessel on Friday night.

The incident on the Hong Kong registered bulk carrier took place as the vessel entered British Gibraltar Territorial Waters in the Bay of Gibraltar.

Authorities were alerted by a pilot on board.

Katy Docker spoke to Captain of the Port Manuel Tirado, first asking him about the four people who suffered injuries

And in reaction to the explosion, the GSD is urging the Government to ascertain why an allegedly newly constructed vessel, such as the CSSC Cape Town, could have suffered such an incident. The Opposition party says this raises questions, not least in relation to health and safety.

Shadow Minister for the Port, Damon Bossino, added we should take comfort in the fact there were no fatalities and congratulated the port and other authorities for having responded so efficiently to the incident.
