A UK Children’s Charity supporting transgender and gender-diverse young people and their families has been in Gibraltar this week.
Mermaids has been delivering awareness courses on gender non-conformity to front-line professionals including teachers, police officers and social workers.
Some of the issues covered include terminology, toilets and changing rooms, hate crime incidents and treatment pathways.
Mermaids is now working with parents and families in Gibraltar to launch a Gibraltar branch of the charity.
Our reporter Kevin Ruiz spoke to Jason Desoisa, one of the local organisers, but first asked Rosy Rowley of UK Mermaids, what the charity's objectives are.
