UK Joint Committee on Vaccination & Immunisation recommends COVID booster vaccines be offered to those over 50s or at severe risk from the disease

The UK's Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation has recommended that COVID booster vaccines be offered to all those over 50 or at severe risk from the disease, as well as frontline health and care workers.

The JCVI said a third dose of the vaccine should be given no sooner than six months after the second dose. It can, however, be given at the same time as a flu jab.

The Pfizer, AstraZeneca and now Moderna vaccines have all been authorised for use as boosters.

At a press conference Tuesday afternoon on the Government's COVID strategy for the coming winter, Boris Johnson indicated that he would make boosters for the over-50s Government policy, although he did not specify a start date.
