Unite Gibraltar has called on its supporters among the MPs in Westminster to write to the Chief Minister in support of its campaign to decriminalise abortion on the Rock.
In a statement, the union said it had been asked by its women and health sector members locally to be part of the pro-choice campaign. It says it’s worked together with the Equality Rights Group and a range of organisations, and has met with Fabian Picardo as part of a “positive, constructive debate”.
Unite regional officer, Gillian Birkett, said the union recognises that there are different and strongly held personal views inGibraltar. However, she says the union’s policy is clear that it’s about about individual choice: a decision between a woman and her doctor.
