A wildfire in Sierra Bermeja in nearby Andalusia, which had been raging for nearly a week, has now been brought under control.
This was announced on Twitter Tuesday morning by the President of the Junta de Andalucia, Juanma Moreno, after communication with the forest fire response agency INFOCA.
Mr Moreno said the rain had been the firefighters' strongest ally, but added that while the fire is now under control, there was still complex work to be done to extinguish it completely.
Towns and villages had been evacuated as firefighters tackled the blaze over the last few days; tragically, one firefighterdied in the effort.
According to Spanish press reports, the wildfires burned around 7,400 hectares, with the flames visible from the north end of the Rock.
